What a creator contracts quality checklist means for campaign delivery
A working quality checklist for creator contracts in England, covering disclosure wording, sign-off evidence and record keeping, with a decision table.
What a creator contracts quality checklist means for campaign delivery
- Define the deliverables, dates, permissions, fees and approval route before production.
- Write the required advertising disclosure into the agreement.
- Assign an owner and pass condition to every delivery check.
- Apply the platform disclosure control and save proof of the published content.
- Schedule checks at signature, before publication, after posting and at campaign close.
- Store the completed records with access and retention arrangements recorded.
- Agree how the parties will handle failures, changes, enforcement and liability.
Fix the job's boundaries
Set the campaign boundaries in the signed terms before production begins. Identify each promised deliverable, platform, posting date, asset permissions, fee and approval route. The agreement should remain the source of each party's obligations, rather than relying on an informal brief or later messages to settle a disagreement.
Specify the permitted channels, how long assets may be reused and whether paid media is allowed. Record competing brands and any exclusivity period, invoice process, payment date, VAT position and gifted product. Name the approver, set included revision rounds, explain cancellation after filming, and allocate responsibility for product claims and data.
These details prevent delivery decisions from reopening commercial questions under deadline pressure. Review the commercial clause checks alongside the schedule, while keeping the signed terms authoritative. The sponsorship agreement can also help distinguish the deal's commercial boundaries from day-to-day campaign instructions.
Make disclosure part of the contracted work
Put the approved disclosure wording, its position and any hashtag or tag instruction in the contract. Treat the instruction as a required part of delivery, not a caption suggestion added at the final review, so the creator and approver can resolve any departure before publication.
Use the disclosure policy for broader context, while keeping the schedule focused on the creator's required action. The advertising rules for England explain hidden-advertising risk; a delivery checklist should not try to replace a separate policy analysis or leave the actual posting instruction unclear.
Give every check an owner
Name one responsible person for each quality check and state what counts as a pass. Separate checks for campaign identity and dates, disclosure wording, publication evidence, changes and data handling. This makes it easier to identify which part of delivery needs attention instead of relying on an informal sign-off.
Use the delivery workflow to place those checks in order. The role ownership guide can help prevent gaps or duplicated ownership. Record who is responsible for audience or performance information, including what each party may collect, retain and share.
Pair the platform setting with evidence
Apply the platform's disclosure control as well as the wording agreed in the contract. Instagram's paid partnership label, TikTok's branded content toggle and YouTube's paid promotion setting each surface a disclosure above the content. Treat the platform setting and written instruction as connected checks, not substitutes for one another.
A thank-you to a brand may not make clear whether the post was paid or gifted. The gifted-item disclosure rules address that issue in detail. Save evidence of the platform control and published caption with the approval message and publishing time, so the checker can compare the live post against the agreed instruction.
Capture a story before it expires and file it with the evidence for the live post. Keep the approval route beside the publication record, allowing the checker to trace a caption change to the person who approved it rather than relying on later recollection.

Put review points on the calendar
Schedule checks because the agreed details can drift between signature and publication. Give each review to its named owner and use the planning template for the pre-publication comparison. That turns a reminder into an assigned delivery task and gives the checker a current brief to consult.
At signature, confirm the approved wording, placement and hashtag. Before publication, compare the proposed caption with the current brief and resolve differences. After posting, save the live content and publishing time, including any story before it expires. At close, freeze the file and review access so handover does not depend on memory.
Close the record with clear handling rules
At campaign close, record where the deal file is stored, who may access it and the agreed retention period. Keep the signed schedule, approval message and publication evidence together, while separating them from audience data and performance exports.
Treat section five of the Limitation Act 1980 as a claims limitation reference, not as a universal advertising-record duty or an automatic retention instruction. Document the purpose, access, sharing arrangements and agreed retention period for audience information and performance exports separately from contract records.
Agree the response to failure or change
Set out accountability before a failure occurs. State who may issue a corrected schedule, who contacts the creator and how liability is divided if a check fails. This reduces uncertainty in a consumer protection response without assuming that one party controls every part of publication.
The ASA applies the CAP Code and publishes an online advertiser list; the CMA may act on unfair commercial practices under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024. The CMA's published annual plan is an official source for enforcement context, and Trading Standards services may also handle consumer-protection cases.
The rules apply across the UK, although enforcement and platform practice can differ, so check Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish deals separately. Liability may rest with the brand and creator together, depending on the arrangement. Define responsibilities in the liability clause and seek qualified advice on the specific facts. General guidance only.
